10 anos da Revista Comunicando

In the month when we celebrate the 10th anniversary of Revista Comunicando, we recall the beginning of this journey. Created by Young Researchers for Young Researchers, Comunicando Magazine presents itself as a space for the dissemination of knowledge and thoughts in communication sciences.
Remembering the first decade of Revista Comunicando is inevitably recognizing the commitment of the people who passed through it in consolidating communication sciences in Portugal. To keep the memory of its history, we share the testimonies of those who have fulfilled and still fulfill a relevant role in Revista Comunicando:
Moisés de Lemos Martins (President of Sopcom in 2012): "The creation of Revista Comunicando was justified by the need for a space for the dissemination of knowledge and thought in communication sciences. But, in addition to this fundamental objective, this scientific publication can fulfill all the community functions noted, the celebration, the social bond, the union mark, the identity, functions that reinforce the group of Young Researchers and help its members to cross the desert of time that we live in, as well as to travel together the new path of encounter and hope."
Fábio Ribeiro (Coordinator of GT Young Researchers in 2012): "Comunicando Magazine emerged in a context marked by the growth in the number of doctoral students - and other researchers associated with research projects funded by FCT and other entities - as a way of promoting a dynamic scientific space around Communication Sciences. Thanks to the effort of the editors of this inaugural issue, it was possible to lay the foundations for a publication that would become relevant for Portuguese and international researchers at the beginning of their careers. Without this initial impulse, for which the institutional support of Sopcom contributed greatly, it would not have been possible to continue this path, ten years after the first publication."
Soraya Barreto Januário (Editor of the first issue of Revista Comunicando): "Resulting from collective work, the creation of Revista Comunicando aimed to be one more space that promoted debates and a means of disseminating research produced by young researchers at the beginning of their careers, as well as being a tool that provided the most varied experiences, both editorial and publishing. Regarding the first edition, it was a difficult start, because it was a new magazine that did not yet have the necessary qualifications that made it a recognized scientific journal. But, with the mobilization together with the editorial team, it was possible to make the first edition viable, which featured the publication of twenty scientific articles. It is very gratifying to see that the project continues with its essence, with the necessary updates, with other visions and proposals. Seeing that Revista Comunicando, 10 years after its inception, has conquered its space and has contributed not only to the strengthening of Communication Sciences, but also to the construction of a network among the young researchers themselves."
Hélder Prior (Editor of the first issue of Revista Comunicando): "In recent years, academic production in Communication Sciences courses has gained momentum and relevance, especially due to the maturity of the field of Communication in scientific research, but also due to the impact and effects of the mediatisation process on sociability, culture, economy, politics, justice... Attentive to this process, Sopcom, through a group of young researchers, launched Comunicando as a field of visibility for Portuguese-language scientific production. In fact, over the past 10 years, 14 issues of the journal have been published, discussing methodological challenges in the field, new media and the importance of digital literacy, the history of Communication, and communicative and sociological phenomena in general. I had the privilege, together with researchers who now hold positions in Portuguese and Brazilian universities, to edit the first 5 issues of Comunicando. If the journal has fulfilled its main purpose, which is to serve as a space for disseminating scientific research carried out by early career researchers, it is largely due to the effort of the authors, editors, and reviewers who have embraced this project over the last 10 years. Congratulations Comunicando!".
Margarida Maneta (Coordinator of the Young Researchers Working Group in 2022): "Commitment, sharing, and dynamism. These are the adjectives that I often use to describe the Revista Comunicando. It is through them that the communion between activity and the investment in it is revealed: only from the commitment of voluntary work assumed by its editors and the sharing of knowledge between reviewers and authors, is the debate in the field of communication sciences permanently energized. After 10 years, I believe we are in a position to ensure that the creation of the Revista Comunicando has strengthened the expression of the community of young researchers and the area of knowledge both inside and outside Portugal. Wishing it a long life!"
Élmano Ricarte (Deputy Coordinator of the Young Researchers Working Group in 2022): "The Revista Comunicando is the result of a collective struggle for scientific publication in the field of Communication Sciences in Portugal. It is a continuous battle to bring knowledge produced by those who are mainly at the beginning of their scientific careers to more people. We hope that this space will continue to grow with the quality and commitment that we want to see not only in our actions in managing the Journal but also in the publications received. Being part of the Comunicando team since 2019 is an honor to know such diverse studies and to collaborate for their scientific visibility".
Mateus Luan Dellarmelin (Director of the Revista Comunicando in 2022): "Since 2020, I have had the privilege of being an active part of the work developed by Revista Comunicando. In addition to the practical knowledge acquired over this period of time, I highlight the rewarding contact with the editorial team. The seriousness and professionalism dedicated to the continuous improvement of the journal itself demonstrates the commitment of the editorial team to the academic community and to the research in the communication sciences. Admirably, Revista Comunicando has been consolidating itself as a space that seeks to promote the experience of scientific production, thus contributing to the development of young researchers. I am sure that Revista Comunicando will continue to develop, strengthening scientific contributions in an invaluable exchange of work and ideas."
Ana Filipa Oliveira (Deputy Director of Revista Comunicando in 2022): "I have been following Revista Comunicando since around 2014. It was one of the first publications through which I accessed research done by peers. With Comunicando, I grew as a young researcher and understood the paths that were being taken by young researchers in the field of Communication Sciences. More recently, by joining the team, I have had the opportunity to actively contribute to its growth and, above all, recognition within the academic community. Celebrating 10 years, it is good to see that Comunicando has always found young researchers along its path who believed in its project and its contribution to science at the national level. Congratulations, Comunicando. Congratulations, team!"
Alice Balbé (Editor of Revista Comunicando in 2022): "The Young Researchers Working Group of Sopcom, which I have been a part of for several years, has brought me new opportunities and contact with researchers from various universities in Portugal and beyond. Joining the editorial team of Revista Comunicando is my most recent challenge, after having collaborated in organizing summer school, the young researchers meeting, and conducting interviews with researchers from the group, as well as participating in various initiatives. Being on the editorial team for the 10th anniversary of Comunicando is even more special, as I can say that I have followed its entire development. I see this anniversary as the maturation of the journal, and the evaluations of Qualis and Latindex show that we are on the right track. Particularly, I consider it one of the most interesting experiences, especially because I like the process of evaluation and revision, and now I also have the opportunity to have contact with other reviewers. I hope to continue contributing, I thank and congratulate also the colleagues who were at the forefront of Comunicando."
Camila Lamartine (Editorial Support of Revista Comunicando in 2022): "Joining the team of Revista Comunicando is being surrounded by people/professionals who care about the future of communication sciences in Portugal. It is knowing that these two fields - personal and professional - go hand in hand in the intention of a fast, fair and rigorous process, whether in terms of quality or reliability. Congratulations on the 10th anniversary, which was crowned with the well-deserved integration into RCAAP and Latindex! Here's to another ten years!!"
Marina Polo (Editor of Revista Comunicando in 2022): "Collaborating with Revista Comunicando means being part of the construction of a space that is fundamental for the dissemination of communication sciences. Collaborative work is rewarding because it enables knowledge about what is being produced in the field, as well as being a space for technical, scientific, and human learning."
Lénia Rego (Editor of Revista Comunicando in 2022): "This experience has been a true challenge. Being an editor of a magazine like Revista Comunicando, which has been growing in recent years and has made efforts to excel in quality, is something that requires regular dedication. I had the pleasure of meeting fantastic people who taught me a lot and continue to teach me, who are always ready to help. Today, congratulations must be given to this team and all the editorial teams that helped this magazine grow. To all those who made their time available to make the publication of young researchers' articles possible. Here's to another ten years, with this determination and grit! Congratulations, Revista Comunicando!"
